DO IT!

Save, sort, and recycle. You know what this is about. And you probably think these are good things to do. SiO and Student Housing decided to start this campaign because we know that most students do have good environmental consciences. I think so at least. These days it’s “in” to be environmentally friendly, or rather to act the part. And that’s as far as it goes for many people. It seems like it’s enough to have the right “image.” But is it? The negative consequences of climate change like melting ice, natural catastrophes, polluted air, unequal distribution of resources and so on will only continue until we stop thinking and start doing.
And that’s the goal of this campaign. Do something!
You don’t need to get dreads, become a vegetarian or wear old clothes from your grandmother’s closet. Even though I’m sure that would be nice too. Here on this website you can read tips from SiO, Student Housing and your fellow students about steps to take to be more environmentally friendly. Most of it you already know. So we’ve decided to include some cool competitions to get the ball rolling.
The campaign’s main focus is on energy. Because that’s something that’s easy to measure. And of course SiO wants to save money. But for an extra boost in the campaign, SiO is promising to use the money they save to improve the opportunities for waste sorting and other environmental improvements for the dorms. Double effect! We have decided to call the campaign “Eco-Heroes.” Because doing small and easy steps every day can make you a hero for the environment.
The idea is: stop thinking to yourself that it doesn’t make a difference what you do. Because it does! If everyone takes their own share of the responsibility, it helps a lot. One plus one is two and all that…you know the drill.
If I can, you can, everybody can!
Thanks! Bergitte
